Home : Trekking in HimalayasTrekking in HimalayasHimalayas, "home of the snows", are the most impressive system of mountains on the planet, and for centuries the setting for epic feats of exploration and mountain climbing, are a world into themselves. Indian Himalayas are the part of the Himalayan range which are in the Indian territory spreading from Southeast to northwest. In the west it starts from the Karakoram, continuing to Laddakh, Spiti and then further into the Garhwaal and Kumaon Himalayas extending further into Sikkim and the northeastern states. Preparing yourself before a Trek Ascending the heights and being a part of the Himalayan landscape is an experience beyond comparison. Above all, trekking in the Himalaya is often a mix of adventure, pleasure and self realization. But one has to prepare/trainmentally and physically before starting a trek in the Himalayas. The picturesque landscapes, mighty peaks in the pictures, tents pitched over the snow fields – they all are awesome pictures but there is a lot which goes into those pictures. While trekking takes you to a high, it has its downsides as well. Sleeping in the confined space of the sleeping bag and the tent, getting out from the warmth of the bag in the cold mornings, packing almost every morning just to walk the whole day and unpack again, the cold nights (even though we take good sleeping bags and use hot water bottles), walking in wet conditions (if it rains) crossing landslides, sand/dry pit toilets !are some of the things we don’t visualize while seeing those great shots! These very facts make a trek much more interesting and enjoyable (besides the great sites we visit) if we are prepared well in advance for the trek. As for the physical training, if you are not very active in sports start going out for a walk and a jog. Running on a treadmill with 10degree incline of just climbing up and climbing down steps is a great exercise. It improves and synchronizes the breathing, improves stamina and also strengthens the muscles.
